Join a Spoke: Spoke Centers are the action centers of LeadCap. Here, new leaders are empowered and new ideas are borne. Starting up a spoke centre is easy. Anyone who has the right attitude - to discover his/her leadership potential and a passion to build our nation can start a spoke centre. Or, if you already have an organization or a club or a few like-minded individuals, you can choose to associate with the cause of LeadCap. In both the cases there are some broad guidelines and activities to choose from, and there are already leaders to handhold you. We suggest that you start up with one or two activities - Stand Up Speak Out, Story Board, or Dare to Dream, and focus on them before moving on to larger scheme of things. Focus: The one and only focus of spoke centres is nurturing more leaders - be it through providing them voice through "Stand Up Speak Out", or expanding their potential through "Dare to Dream". The leader/group of leaders who start up a spoke centre should always focus on empowering more and more leaders, because that is the only parameter on which the success of our leaders are measured. There are two broad types of spokes. 1) Existing organizations/clubs: They can get on to the next level by choosing to associate with the vision of building a nation of leaders. While they are allowed to keep their existing organization structure, they would benefit by coming under the umbrella brand of LeadCap, in terms of mentoring, media and networks. Case studies: Expressions Unlimited is an informal social service organisation initiated by employees of a very large software corporation in Bangalore. Their activities were limited inside the organization, and impact to a few smaller causes. LeadCap helped them to reach out to a wider set of individuals across organizations, empower a second rung of leadership and magnify the impact of the cause that they rallied. Sankey Tank Residents' Association is a group of individuals who focused on the issues of the Malleswaram locality in Bangalore. LeadCap helped them organize a massive rally for creating road safety awareness, which reached out to the whole of Bangalore and gained much media attention in national level newspapers like Times of India and Hindu and channels like TimesNow and TV9. 2) New LeadCap spoke centres: These spoke centres can be started by anyone passionate about empowering a larger group of individuals, while building the nation. These could be started up by individuals or by organizations/educational institutions. In educational institutions LeadCap spokes can be initiated by either the authorities or students. Here the spoke centres play a role in shaping up the beliefs and behaviours of the youth. They organize activities around Stand Up Speak Out, Dare to Dream, or put up Story Boards or organize Lead on India ON workshops. And during this process they acquire many precious leadership skills - big thinking, risk taking, communication and result orientation that could help them taste nation building even at very young ages. Organisational Spokes could be initiated either by the Human Resources team, or by any employee who is tuned in to raising the bar. In addition to helping the cause of the nation building process, LeadCap helps in channelising employee skills effectively that they have a chance to realise their leadership potential. As they start getting involved in the LeadCap programmes, they learn to look at problems through the lens of leadership and draw out their hidden talents, which at other times are lost in the intricate mesh of corporate hierarchy. We help them to be passionate and more innovative to produce more value for the nation. Case Studies Upkar Kaur Saini was an employee of one of the large telecommunication companies in the world. She came to know about LeadCap through her brother and decided to start up a spoke centre in her organization. Her passion convinced not just her colleagues, but also the top management of the organization including the Chairman. As she moved on from this organization, she took her passion for LeadCap along with her. She started up another spoke centre in her new organization. She is currently an integral part of the Central Leadership Team of LeadCap driving activities across North India and the USA. Neel Mani Chawla is a third engineering year student at the NIT Jalandar.
